What does Environmental Services mean?

Whether you are developing a home, resurfacing a road, or replacing a culvert, environmental features have the potential to be impacted and there are certain steps that are required to be taken before breaking ground. Our experienced staff will identify natural resources associated with your project and work with you through the permit process to obtain the environmental approvals you need in a timely manner. HC&A can guide you to the most appropriate path in order to meet- and exceed environmental requirements.

HC&A offers the following environmental services:

With 10+ years of environmental consulting experience, we can review your environmental deliverables for accuracy and provide feedback to meet your needs. A second set of eyes is always an advantage!

Wetlands are defined by three criteria: hydrophytic vegetation, hydrology, and hydric soil. This criteria and additional data are collected during our delineations in order to meet the requirements of permitting agencies and to aid in development design. Additionally, our wetland data adheres to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers manual and appropriate supplements and is documented using Corps data sheets.

We have experience and preparing and obtaining wetland permits for transportation, natural gas, and private developments on the federal, state, and local levels.

Tree surveys are performed using local protocols if applicable. Trees within or overlapping a project corridor are identified to species level when possible and include a comprehensive assessment regarding health, structure, potential for threatened and/or endangered bat habitat, community value, and function.

We can prepare your federal Section 7 consultation letters as well as EcoCAT consultations as required by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and other agencies. We are well versed in coordinating with the issuing agencies where additional coordination is necessary. If surveys are required, we can perform on-site evaluations to quantify the presence of a threatened and/or endangered species during appropriate species-specific survey times.

For those projects that may not have wetland impacts but include development within floodplains or exceed a soil disturbance threshold, we prepare permit applications meeting all the requirements of a local agency in a timely manner.

Soil Erosion and Sediment Control is an important component to the development process. Our technicians can provide weekly and 0.5-inch rain inspections, provide Best Management Practices recommendations including a mark-up of your design plans, and coordinate with the permitting agency to ensure a smooth construction process.

A Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) is a living document and essential plan that provides guidance on soil erosion and sediment control measures for contractors. A HC&A can prepare the required documents, recommend Best Management Practices (BMPs) to be used onsite, and provide an Erosion Control Plan which will aid contractors with managing erosion and sedimentation onsite and meet the requirements of the permit issuing agency.

For developments that disturb one acre or more of soil, a National Pollutant Discharge & Elimination System (NPDES) Permit is required. We can prepare your permit application, process the permit with the state EPA office, and coordinate with state agencies to meet the state’s requirements.

HC&A would love to team up with your company to strengthen your proposal with Environmental services.
